Roster Update: I'm delighted to announce the initiation of our newest member, George, on the Sonoma shard, UO. A screen shot of the ceremony is available in the gallery and the roster has been updated. Welcome George!!September 24, 1999Daedin, Herald of the Cross (webchick)
Very Early News: Don't forget Flint's vigil is tonight (see below for his message), hoping to see many of you there! A WARNING: For the members on Great Lakes...the Dorm is being re-ordered this weekend, starting tomorrow night (Friday), so please find a container for your personal items and mark them with a book. Spare books can be had from the bottom small chest...farthest NE corner, bottom floor, under the globe. There are some lockable chests in there as well if you want one. Here is the plan after the re-ordering: All the stuff in the armoires and chests nearest the forge will be for general use...armor, weapons, tools, etc. Ideally, everyone's personal gear will be stowed in the back (north) room on the bottom floor in one of the multitude of chests placed there for that purpose, which will mean the main room and the upstairs area will all be for general use (this will also keep other people from rummaging through your stuff). Right now, I've got two bags that were in the middle of the main downstairs room stowed in the chest under the globe in the SW corner (gotta have your transparency on to see that). If that's your stuff, better move it before Sunday night or it will be redistributed for general use. Also, spare stuff will be sold off and the money will be put in the general fund and to restock stuff we don't have now. You'll also now find a brownish-orange 'trash can' (backpack) in the main hall. Put your old keys and junk in there. If your stuff gets been redistributed and there was a key in with it, it will be in the trash (good luck finding which one it is..heh), which will be 'taken out' on Friday night of next week (Oct 1st). If you have locked any of the chests, armoires, etc in the main downstairs room for your personal use, it would be ever so keen if you would clear your stuff into the other room and lock it up in there instead.Daedin, Herald of the Cross, WebChick, and Dorm Mother/Housekeeper :)

Late Breaking News of Flint/Darren's Vigil: <From Flint>"Hail all Defenders, I would like to invite everyone to join me for my Knight Candidate's Vigil on Friday the 24th at 10pm <Central> in the HCD IRC chat room. -- Flint (UO) Darren (EQ)"Roster Updates: Some notable additions and changes have come to me through His Grace, my apologies for not posting them sooner! Our glad welcome goes out to Initiate Defenders Rudain, Paxius and Suviaen. Also congratulations to Adept Defender Taima on that promotion. Roster Updates: News has reached me from Lord Athelstan on the following changes: Join me in welcoming Altropos as an Initiate Defender, and congratulations on the elevation of Bodhi to an Adept of the Guild as well! The roster reflects the changes. Also, we've revised the member list a bit...if you find you are not correctly listed or you've been inadvertently taken off, please contact me and I'll fix it.Get your ICQ Downloaded NOW!! In our recent review of the roster, I noted how many of you (points fingers meaningfully at the Teutonic Knights branch) have not yet provided me with your ICQ contact numbers. If you haven't downloaded ICQ, please do so and give me your number now. We realize that it cannot be run along with Everquest, but it is a primary way for us to keep members up on last minute Guild happenings, and...well...its not just a good idea, its the LAW (per our Holy Grand Master). If you have trouble getting it loaded, contact me. There is a download link in our links section. Its not hard, and it is a requirement of the Guild, so get cracking!! (on a side note, thanks to Altropos for sending his contact information immediately upon his Initiation...good work!)
Sign up to be listed on the PlayerVault! We have listings for both the HCD and the TK (and a listing as the HCD under Neverwinter just for kicks) on the PlayerVault. If you'd like to be listed there, just send an application for membership through our listings there and I'll put you on those rosters for whichever game you're playing. There is a link to the PlayerVault in our links section. If you have any trouble or questions, contact me!

From the Guild Wide Meeting: Thank you to all who attended, and forgive my absence! Words from Lord Athelstan include that he has formed 'bank characters' in Queynos and Freeport to collect and store extra items that members have acquired. Contact him to store your items for use by others in the Guild. Also, the updated schedule for Everquest fight nights will be posted in the Events Section of these pages (see menu option). Please contact me if you have any questions!Respectfully submitted--Daedin, Herald of the Cross (WebChick)

September 2, 1999--Happy Holiday Weekend!
Early Morning Greetings! The Knight's Council which would have happened on Sunday will be rescheduled after I get in touch with Lord Athelstan next week, so keep your eyes peeled for news of that. Have a fun, safe and happy holiday weekend (and keep your fingers crossed for good weather while Marco and I go camping! eek!).Daedin, Herald and WebChick

Early Morning Update: I had the honor of witnessing an exchange of the bonds of Knight and Squire between Sir Zedd and Bane yesterday afternoon on Great Lakes. It was lovely to be back in a setting that allowed me to take portraits, which has inspired me to finally set up a gallery of pictures that I've taken during ceremonies over the years. You'll find a listing of pictures under the new Gallery link in the main menu. If you have taken any portraits of events that I've missed, please arrange a time to transfer them to me and I'll try to put them up. Expect a fair amount of loading time, as I am posting large shots for clarity of view. Any advice on things like thumbnailing would be lovely (says your perrenial techopeasant). I hope you like what you see. Oh, and the roster has been updated.Daedin, Herald, WebMistress (and that chick with the camera)

Reminder--Knight's Council Tonight: Sorry for the late notice...we meet at midnight Central time, HCD chat room IRC. We have a couple things of some import on the agenda, so I hope many of you can make it. See you tonight!Unfolding Events from the Great Lakes Revolution: Several Defenders attended the trial of Marconus MacBeth on Great Lakes in the City of Yew yesterday (EdGuardo, Flint, Klimek, BlackAngel, and Daedin). Marconus, a reputed leader in the revolt of the Brittanian Liberation Front against Lord British's government of Great Lakes, was brought to trial on charges of High Treason and the ordering of the murder of members of the Yew militia. After a long and convoluted trial, the Mayor of Yew proclaimed Marconus' guilt and sentenced him to death for his crimes. As the sentence was pronounced, the courtroom was suddenly filled with the prescence of dozens of the black robed minions of the Temple of Mondain, some representatives of certain Orc Clans, and other followers of the BLF. We were astonished to see Dingo wearing the black of Mondain's minions, and to hear him shouting his allegiance to their villianous cause. These vile persons have laid claim to many cities of Brittania, and have vowed to attack and subdue the remaining free cities, particularly, the City of Yew has been given until next Saturday to surrender or be attacked, and they announced plans to attack the City of Trinsic at some future date. When confronted, Dingo rebuffed the Defenders publicly, and it is widely known that he is at the heart of the BLF. All this on top of his refusal to follow the direct command of Lord Athelstan in the matter of the revolution, for which he has already been branded a traitor to the Cross. Later that evening, Dingo issued a challenge to us to meet him on the field. Reports tell that he stood behind a line of 20 or so Mondainites, and reportedly fled the field when our reconnaisance team appeared. Lord Athelstan has pledged that we will see swift justice done on this man. I will endeavor to keep you all informed on events as they unfold. I strongly encourage all Great Lakes Defenders to keep vigilant about the attack next Saturday in Yew, as it is a city to which we hold no small allegiance.

Tinkering with the Charter: Well, I've never been happy with the way the Charter looked, so I took the bull by the horns and did some re-ordering and re-formatting to make it easier to navigate around the document. I've also gone over it and made it less UO specific. I'm not sure if what I've done warrants us re-ratifying it. I'll leave that up to you all to decide :) Please contact me with any concerns, questions, or suggestions. Thanks!Chivalry Section Added: I was inspired last night by Methios and Sabre into preserving some old information about our Knights, both past and present. Specifically, I wanted to list the Guild Names used by our current and past Knights (this information was part of the original Guild member listing that Dhrun had posted...I had taken it out for space consideration). Therefore, you'll find a link to that listing in the menu bar. Please check over your listing if you're a Knight and let me know if I'm missing any information, if I'm missing any past Knights, or if I have it wrong. What is a Guild name you ask? Check the Charter for an explanation (under the Miscellaneous section).
Plans for the Guild History: Methios has further inspired me to do some work on the Ancient History section of our site. In other words, I'd like to flesh out some of the stories surrounding our ancestors. Particularly, if you are using a historical Guild Name, how about writing up a bio of your Honorary? If you've created a name (this means you, Sabre), how about telling me a story about it to get our little role-playing minds going? I'd be delighted if you all would pick one or two historical characters and fill their story out a bit (not too long a story though)...any and all submissions would be welcomed!
Guild Wide Meeting Recap: Let me first say: Wow!! What an outstanding turnout we had last night!! To all of you who took the time to attend, thank you very much indeed! Also, thanks for your patience with the IRC server. We think that the switchover to our new backbone, et al, will help clear the troubles up. Sir Zedd reported that the switchover will be complete by the end of the month. This does mean that the current IP address for the HCD Shard will become invalid, but he assures me that we'll be able to get the word out to you when we have a new IP address. With the start of school again, many of us will have less play time (although Anakin reported that he will actually have *more* time...what does that mean?). We are back on track for holding our monthly Guild meetings, so mark your calendars for the 3rd Thursday of each month at 9pm Central time for this. With all the catching up we had to do, we launched straight into the ceremonies, skipping shard/server reports. Here is a listing of the ceremonies that took place (congratulations to all the recipients!!):
Sir Methios Agneus/Cauis: Knight Defender
Sir Kristiane Sabre: Knight Defender
Adept Gamanin: Order of Sir Eshmiel
ban-Iarla Daedin MacAoidh: Order of Sir Eshmiel

BlackAngel: Initiate DefenderWhat a tremendous night! If you would like information on what these Orders mean, check out the menu and go to the Orders of Merit section. Information on the ranks can be found in the charter link, and the roster link will take you to the member section which has been updated. Of course, if any of this information is incorrect, please contact me right away.
Respectfully submitted: Daedin MacAoidh, Herald of the Cross (WebMistress)

Early Morning Thanks: To all those who attended the vigils for Knight Candidate Methios Agneus and Knight Candidate Kristiane Sabre, a hearty thanks! Even the moves over to ICQ did not dampen the spirits of our steadfast Defenders! To the candidates and participants both, well done!Knight's Council: We will convene on Sunday, August 15th, 10pm PAC, Midnight CDT. We'll try to use the chat room, or barring that, we'll hook up on ICQ. I particularly encourage those of us on EQ to try to make a showing to keep us up on happenings there. Still haven't gotten a definitive listing of our members there, so any help with that would be appreciated.
Guild Wide Meeting Reminder: We meet in the chat room on Thursday, August 19th at 9pm CDT (7pm PAC). It is highly likely that we will be holding some significant ceremonies after we meet, so attendance is strongly encouraged. Contact me if you have questions or cannot attend!
Daedin, Herald of the Cross
**We are having moderate to severe thunderstorm warnings here about every night, if not more than once per night. Lightening touched off a fire less than two miles away last night, and we've had frequent power losses and surges, so if you don't see me online, or (as seen recently) I have to bail suddenly, my apologies in advance.**

Lord Athelstan takes EdGuardo as Squire:
In a ceremony today, Lord Athelstan and EdGuardo entered into the bonds of Knight and Squire (Sir Daedin will stand as Lord Athelstan's proxy to train EdGuardo on Sonoma). The roster has been updated with the happy news! Congratulations, Athelstan and EdGuardo! The Rescheduled Vigil for Kristiane Sabre:
Word reaches me that Kristiane has rescheduled her vigil as a Knight Candidate for Monday, August 9th at 9pm CDT (7pm PDT, 10pm EDT) in the Guild Chat Room. If you cannot attend both Sabre's and Methios' vigils, you'll have an excellent opportunity to catch at least one! I hope to see many of you there!Daedin--Herald of the Cross (WebChick)

Methios' Vigil is announced! News from the message board from Squire Methios that he will be holding his vigil as a Knight Candidate on Sunday, August 8th, at 10pm Cental (8pm Pacific). Details weren't clear, but you can assume that this is his question and answer session and will be held in the Guild Chat Room (unless othewise announced). For those of you attending a vigil for the first time, this is a place where we ask questions of each other about things like what it is to be a Knight of the Guild. Everyone is free and welcomed to participate, and you're encouraged to attend. Such things usually go about 1-2 hours, and they can be alot of fun and a nice way to get to know your fellow Guildsmen. Please contact me if you have any questions.News from Knight's Council: Thanks to those of you who attended! A reminder that all our members should feel free to make recommendations to Lord Athelstan (via email) for the Guild Orders of Merit. These are special recognitions for achievement, and members do not need to hold a particular rank beyond Adept to be considered. Recommendations should include the particular acts that you feel warrant a recognition, the name of the person you wish to recommend, and for what Order. A full listing of the Orders of Merit can be found via the menu. If you have any questions about Orders of Merit or making a recommendation, please feel free to contact Lord Athelstan, myself, your House head, or any of the Knights.
I've added a link above for your convenience that will take you to the Guild chat room (IRC). This is being used for our meetings, and some of our ceremonies. Speaking of meetings...
Guild Wide Meeting: Thursday, August 19th, 9pm Central, 7pm Pacific in the chat room. Allmembers are strongly encouraged to attend. For those of you who have not experienced a Guild Wide meeting, it generally lasts about 1-2 hours. We cover all aspects of what is happening in the Guild and the games. Also, we may hold ceremonies and/or elevations after the meeting business is concluded. If you are unable to attend, please contact me, otherwise we will look forward to seeing you there!

Early Morning News! We had a tremendous turnout last night for Sir Kelderek's elevation to Knighthood! The chat room worked out *pretty* well...some bugs, but not near the trouble we would have had in ICQ with those numbers! Thanks to all who attended and showed their affection and support for Kelderek. During his elevation, he announced the formation of his House, House Molnir (named after the hammer of Thor, I believe). I've updated the Great House section with a short page of information, but there will certainly be more available there from him soon. I have it listed as an EverQuest House for now, but Kelderek mentioned that he is interested in a Ultima House in the future.Another Reminder! Many of our new members of the Teutonic Knights are still not listed on the roster. I would love to put you on there, but I need your information! PLEASE contact me via ICQ or send me an email at the "submit news" button above. I'd like your game name, email, ICQ if you have it, when you joined, and who initiated you into the Guild. I hope to hear from you soon!
Respectfully submitted, Sir Daedin--Herald of the Cross (Web woman)

Derek/Kelderek's Elevation tonight sees the initiation of our new chat room!July 10, 1999Through the efforts of Sir Zedd, Master of All Things Web, we now have a java based IRC chat room! The room can be accessed using mIRC or other IRC clients, but it can also be accessed directly!! This means if you haven't loaded down mIRC, you don't need to (your sys does need to be able to read java). If you're using Netscape and you get a java security message (like I do), just keep hitting the "deny" button when the window pops up and eventually you'll be able to enter the chat. I think you'll all groove on this, so give it a whirl! Here's the URL:
This also means no "I didn't download the software" excuses for not attending tonight :) The festivities begin at 11pm CDT, 9pm PDT. I'll be on ICQ a bit before in case you have any trouble getting in the chat.

Derek/Kelderek's Elevation is Tomorrow!Lord Athelstan wishes this ceremony to be held in IRC. We are set for 11pm CDT (9pm PDT). **The rest of this message was deleted, because we got the chat room going :) See notation above**

Heed the Last Words of Lord Granyte!
"Friends, as I was praying to the Cross she asked upon me a great service. She told me how our world came to be. Magical lines called "wires" knotted together in intangible things called "vertices" all in this great omniverse she called "3 dimensional space." She said to me, 'Granyte. Our world and worlds like us are forever expanding, contracting and changing. And for those changes to take place, people like you must step beyond your own existence and take the wire and the vertice and create.' She also told me that there was much far beyond those creations of our mandolin, tamborine and harp. Apparently there were similar more advanced creations such as the electric Fender bass, the Casio Synthesizer and the Korg N-Series MIDI module, that I should take into hand and create atmospheres for which the wire and the vertice may breathe. And I asked the Cross how I was to do this, how do I step out of my own existence? And she said, 'Granyte, you must terminate your life as an Elementalist, and begin your life as a creator. I can help you cross this bridge, but you alone must walk the journey afterwords.' Sighing, I returned here to the tower, to tell you all these things and begin my final ceremony. I have chosen to become a creator. I will no longer exist in this world, but I will still be able to communicate with all of you, when the situation arises....Farewell."
Our fondest regards and best wishes for the future go out to our friend and good companion.
Daedin--Herald of the Cross (and Web chick)
