For those of you who weren't here when I stepped down... * Kyna made it to ceremony in AW I created a regent position (Daedin at the time) to choose the next HGM for a very specific reason... First off, we aren't a democracy so voting for our leader just seemed silly. A feudal system would choose by rite of arms or by overwhelming power.. again silly. So, I figured in a dispute we would have a arbitor who would take all sides into consideration and choose. I have been spending since Thursday gathering opinions... My questions focused both on specific people.... but beyond that, the charactaristics of a HGM we would find desirable. I also asked very specificly who people would NOT like to see as HGM. Something they may not wish to divulge in a forum. I would like to continue that tonight. I woudl like each and every one of you to perform your duty in turn, and tell me and your fellow knights what charactaristics you would desire in a HGM Then, send me an individual tell as to who you belive embodies your desires best. Sound reasonable? Athelstan would you care to go first or last? * Elby pokes ath to wake him Ill go first It's all yours ok Since the HCD have the Knights' Council to decide on most things, I have found that the HGMs job has been to lead whether by example, or by direct orders, the HGM should be an active leader, especially in whatever world the majority of our members happen to be in at that tiem the HGM position was created in the first place because having a ruling council led to stagnation with too many people needed to make a decision, especially when time was a consideration * Athelstan yields Marco? I'll go seems fitting It's yours then All of what ath said inclusing, A HGM must be a leader not just in a particular game, but also on the boards and via other means. er inclusive Also, that person must have a good sense of what this guild is, what the heritage is, and how this guild fits in a multigame context. Person should be approachable, but not too chummy as in eager to please, and willing to compromise said ideals to please. But Does have the ability TO compromise when the situation allows. * Kyna yields Well spoken... I think those are all good qualities, but I see Respect as primary Respect of those within the guild...even when i disagreed with an order from aeth, I followed out of respect we are also not one of theose huge UBER guilds, so respect from outside the guild matters too many judge us by our leaders if you have the respect of others, you will have their trust we are a multigame guild, but we tend to congregate in one world at a time mostly * Saegan yields Good point. I think that the position tends to weigh heavier on our brothers once they ascend...and feel the importance of the position Of all the qualities that I feel an HGM should possess...it is compassion...I think we ALL fit the bill in all these regards And I would also like to say..that I think all my brother knights have these qualities..that each of us has mentioned I would say that the HGM should be the embodiement of what HCD has stood for...actions and words. Of course, whomever this is, must command respect. Not necessarily just in the manner (though correct as well) mentioned earlier, but also in the mystic way. The kind of person you respect because they are there, not just because they hold a position or because of what they have done. Our HGM must have pacience. As the two former HGM here can attest, there are a lot of different viewpoints being thrown at this person all at once. The HGM needs to be able to handle all of this without loosing their cool. Wisdom is essential. This has been mentioned many times before, and has rang true every time. Our HGM needs to pinpoint right out of wrong and stick with it. I came in late, so I hope I don't reinterate too much but... it boils down, in the simplest terms to two things for me 1) Someone who has the right personality, aka, is willing to be the final word and make the final call and 2) someone who (at present) has the time we can't predict the future, nor should we try we can only go with what we feel good about now. Who we feel good about now. And let the future be its own thing. As for characteristics, we all possess them to greater and lesser degrees or we wouldn't be in this council its a matter of who is willing and able to step up that's my thought in a nutshell *yield* clear concise and wise Well spoken.. Someone with the courage, wisdom, and charisma to face the challenges of leadership, figure out what is right, and to lead us in our noble deeds. That person must be one who not only knows the virtues and tenants by which we live, but lives them. Weii spoke of some of our members abilities to communicate with others within and without our guild. He also stressed the desire of the next HGM to take on this duty. Ardion spoke that our next HGM should be careful, loyal, far-seeing, intelligent and a Knight of good standing He also stressed our need to have someone who can lead across a great void between several games. Many of those not within our council stressed the need for the person to be helpful and compassionate Approacable and just. I myself, I have just tried to approach this without bias. I shall make the decision I see best. The first considerations I take are the qualities you mentioned. When I stepped down as HGM there was little choice, and in fact before I stepped down I mentioned it to his grace in a RL meeting. I was bleseed with no great turmoil in my real life. (not to say that Athelstan was chosen by default!) Nothing along the lines his Grace has laid out to us. SHH! Aye that's true... I had the luxury of giving more than a few days to Daedin. Not that I begrudge his Grace this short amount of time. I will make my decision within 24 hours and it will be posted on the HCD message board.
